What is Christmas? What is it all about? To get an answer, look into the Bible, the Word of God. There you will learn the meaning of the greatest event of all time; the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ into the World. Wise men at His birth, a Galilean fisherman in His life, a Roman Centurion at His death and a doubting disciple in resurrection all worshipped Him! Have you? Where is He? They came from the east with this important inquiry, "Where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east, and are come to worship Him" (Matthew 2v2). Herod having heard these things called the chief priests and scribes together. Learning that He should be born in Bethlehem, the wise men departed and the star that they saw in the east went before them until they came to where the young child was. "And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshipped Him...they presented unto Him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh" (Matthew 2v11). Mary was an espoused virgin, highly favoured and blessed among women - but they worshipped the Babe! Who is He? This was not just another baby or even a special child but the Son of God, as the angel said to Mary "...therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God" (Luke 1v35). During His years of miracles, teaching and healing, some thought He was John the Baptist, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. Jesus said to His disciples, "But whom do ye say that I am?" Peter said: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16v15,16). What words of praise and worship from a Galilean fisherman. What did He? Let the scriptures speak to your heart on this matter, "...Christ died for the ungodly" (Romans 5v6). "God commendeth His love toward us... while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5v8). "There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave Himself a ransom for all" (1 Timothy 2v5-6). "The Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2v20). The Roman Centurion watching Jesus at His crucifixion said, "Truly this was the Son of God" (Matthew 27v54). Why did He? He, Whom wise men worshipped, died for sinners! This is the best news the world has ever known. God loved the world and gave His only begotten Son to be the Saviour of that world. The Son loved the world and gave Himself at Calvary a ransom for all in that world - what a gift! He died for sinners, His blood was shed and He rose again the third day. Have you ever believed this good news and by faith said, "He died for a sinner like me"? Receive Him today as Saviour and Lord, and worship with Thomas when he saw Him after His resurrection saying, "My Lord and my God" (John 20v28). Who.. He loved me, the Father's only Son, He gave Himself, the precious, spotless One, He shed His blood, and thus the work was done. Loved.. He loved, not merely pitied, Here I rest. Sorrow may come, I to His heart am pressed. What could I fear while sheltered in His breast? Me.. Wonder of wonders, Jesus loved me. A wretch-lost-ruined-sunk in misery. He sought me, found me, raised me, set me free.
