A Great Mountain Burning With Fire (25 Pack)

We watch with fascination the latest news reports of the ongoing eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma. La Palma is one of the Canary Islands, situated off the north west coast of Africa. The molten lava can be seen flowing like rivers down the hillsides, destroying property and crops and has led to the evacuation of thousands of people from their homes. Rocks, lava and ash are being propelled high into the air with astounding force, causing disruption to air travel. The ash accumulation on crops, including banana plantations, damages the plants, jeopardising the income of farmers on the island. Toxic gases are emitted from the volcano and more toxic gases and steam are released when the boiling lava enters the Atlantic Ocean and solidifies to form new deltas.

Records show that the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma erupted in 1585, and probably many times before this date, with more recent eruptions occurring in 1949 and 1971.

The present eruption began on 19 September 2021 and has been accompanied daily by numerous earthquakes of increasing magnitude, currently up to 5.1 on the Richter scale. It continues (December 2021) with its devastation, and occasional warnings of a potential tsunami have been on the news. Over the years this particular volcano has been considered capable of causing a devasting mega-tsunami should it suddenly collapse into the sea. It has been calculated that such a tsunami could have the potential to travel westward to devastate the east coast of North America, including Florida and the Caribbean Islands. Other experts disagree, saying this is probably not a realistic risk as they reckon that if a landslide was to take place on La Palma it would slide into the sea causing a less devastating tsunami.

However, my mind has been drawn to Revelation 8v8-9, when a great mountain burning with fire will be cast into the sea. “And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed."

Since this mountain will be cast into the sea, rather than slide into it, evidently the outcome will be more devastating. The “great mountain” of Revelation 8v8 may or may not be situated on the island of La Palma. There are other volcanoes in the world which have erupted over the centuries, and still do, with varying degrees of impact on the surrounding inhabitants and their environment. Yet, this event with all its devastation as described in the Bible will take place in God’s time, as will all the other dreadful happenings described in Revelation. Only God knows the exact location and when it will happen.

God wants each of us to look at world events as a warning of what is to come on this world. God will judge the world for all the evil and wickedness. Many horrendous events will occur with colossal loss of life, to both humans and other living creatures when God vents His wrath on the earth. In Revelation 6v16-17 we read of people calling on the mountains and rocks to fall on them and hide them "from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:" (the Lord Jesus) "For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" The world’s infrastructure will be severely affected, and plagues will occur one after the other, terrorising the people who survive. The stars will fall unto the earth, the sun will be darkened and moon will look like blood.

Before this "Great Tribulation" takes place, the Lord Jesus will have called away from earth all those who belong to Him. These people have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, believing that on the cross He died for their sins. “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (I Thessalonians 4v16-17). Those who are left behind will face the Great Tribulation, the like of which never was seen before.

Out of love for mankind God provided a way of escape from judgment for our sins. We all are sinners who cannot dwell in Heaven with God Who is holy, unless our sins have been forgiven at some point in our lives. The Lord Jesus had no sins, but He went to the cross and bore the penalty for our sins. He bore “our sins in His own body on the tree.” (I Peter 2v24). “Christ died for our sins.” (I Corinthians 15v3). “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.” (John 3v36). Just before the Lord Jesus died on the cross He said “It is finished” (John 19v30). God was satisfied with His death as a sacrifice for our sins and raised Him from the dead. All we are asked to do is to turn to God in our need and believe. We cannot do anything more and we don’t need to do anything more.

At this moment you can be saved, but when the Lord Jesus has come to the air it will be too late. Be sure you are ready to go. Don’t be left behind to endure the dreadful events which are coming on the earth, with no hope for eternity, only Hell and then the Lake of Fire.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3v16)
