Christmas - The Plan
(25 Pack)
[GW-011-C_25]

by Gary Woods

Even though we know when Christmas Day will arrive, most fail to make all the planned preparations in good time. The warning is given to prepare in time for death and the Lord's coming since we don't know when these events will occur.

Every year is the same...! "We must be better organised for Christmas this year." Elaborate plans are made in an effort to avoid the last minute rush. In theory it is simple; everything must be completed before December 25th. Yes, although we have a whole year to prepare, inevitably the best made plans go astray. In the end, most people get caught up in the rush that they sought to avoid, before realising that they have left it too late! For the event of December 25th to arrive without dread, careful planning and action are required. Have you ever considered that we are living our lives with two other events before us whose timing is uncertain? The first event is death. Christmas time is associated with good tidings; "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord" Luke 2v10-11. The reason God sent a Saviour is because "all have sinned" Romans 3v23. Since all have sinned then all must die. "Wherefore, as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned" Romans 5v12. Death is an unwelcome event that arrives suddenly and unexpectedly. The second event is the Lord's coming again. Christmas is a celebration or a remembrance of the Lord's first coming, "Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel" Isaiah 7v14. "And she brought forth her firstborn Son... and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn" Luke 2v7. The Saviour who came the first time to Bethlehem said, "I will come again" John 14v3. This will happen "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye" 1Corinthians 15v52. When? No date is given. It is an event that is imminent. Death takes us immediately from time to eternity and marks the end of this life. The Lord's coming takes those who are saved to be with the Lord and marks the end of our opportunity as sinners to repent and be saved. The Lord Jesus Christ came the first time to save. "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost" Luke 19v10. He made salvation possible for all by His suffering, death and resurrection. "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God..." 1Peter 3v18. "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures... was buried, and...rose again the third day according to the scriptures" 1Corinthians 15v3?4. How then can we be saved? "...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved..." Acts 16v31. When should we be saved? "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" 2Corinthians 6v2. If by December 25th you forget a card or overlook a present, all is not lost. The worst that can happen is perhaps an awkward moment or a feeling of embarrassment. What if death overtakes us or the Lord comes and we are found planning to be saved, but not saved? Sadly, in spite of the love of God and the sending of His Son Jesus Christ to be the Saviour of the World, many will never know the joy of Heaven. They heard of the "good tidings of great joy... a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord" Luke 2v10-11, and were assured that "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life" John 3v36, yet they perished in their sins. Why? Even though they had planned to be saved they failed in life to act on what they heard. Eventually in eternity they realise - too late! Will this be you..? Too late, they never thought, That death would come. Life's course would swiftly end, Where are they gone? Too late, they never thought, The Lord would come. That grace its day would end, Those saved, not found, but gone! Their waiting, toiling, sorrowing, ended, Their Lord has come. Saved by faith in Him, in Him alone, Gone on... to Heaven... HOME
